Morrinsville Bowling Club began in 1911, amalgamated initially with tennis and croquet. (You can still see the tarmac next door). Improvements to the bowling club facilities came in 1954, 1974 and in 1985 this to form the pavillion as we know it. Teh top green formed after WW2 and cost some 550 pounds, while the last addition cost some $71,000 and was financed by loans, donations and debentures. Most of the work was done by members, with technical support by a registered builder. It was not without some consequences, with Clive Hart falling through the roof and breaking a leg while dropping the old building.
The opening ceremony for the 1986 season - celebrating 75 years attracted160 bowlers - what we would do with these numbers!. Many present Morrinsville residents are related to some of the bowlers involved in the construction in 1985. They created what we today enjoy.
Our centennial was celebrated in February 2011 at least one member then is still playing today. To honour the work of those who toiled and bowled before, for our pleasure, let's use our carpet wisely and enjoy bowling in good spirit.
